Mt. Kailash

Hindus consider Mt. Kailash to be the abode of Lord Shiva and his divine consort Parvati. Buddhists associate Mt. Kailash with the tantric deity of Chakrasambhava and his consort Bajravarahi. Jains describe Mt. Kailash as the place where Rishabha, the first avotar of the golden age, attained enlightment. The Bon-Po religion honors mountain as powerful power point, linking heaven and earth. The highest peak of Mt. Kailash often called “SUMERU PARVAT”. Vedas speak of Meru or Sumeru as being the centre of the Universe, which is perhaps symbolised by the Holy Mount Kailash. Deevotees consider Kailash the embodiment of Mount Meru / Sumeru and while performing parikrama believe that they are going round the centre of the world, where spiritual transformation is possible. The altitude of the snow capped peak is 6714mt. (22,027ft.)
