Muktinath (provider of Salvation) lies at 3,810m (12,500 ft.). The principal deity is Jwala Mai (Goddess of Flame) Hindus and Buddhists alike consider it a holy pilgrimage site for the eternal flame here, where thousand of devotees flock for attaining the much sought after MOKSHA. Pilgrims also come to this region seeking black ammonite fossils from Kali Gandaki gorge known as SHALIGRAMS, these fossils are considered to be the embodiment of Lord VISHNU. Beyond this lies the fascinating ancient city of Kagbeni.
